Black men have to deal with a lot of inextricable and damaging stereotypes, but the idea that we’re savages who can’t even be trusted to groom ourselves when the occasion calls for it is among the most offensive of them. And that’s the very idea being supported in a new ad from Nivea, which encourages men of color to “re-civilize” themselves and “look like [they] give a damn.”

I replied to this yesterday but I guess replying in yahoo doesn't get the response here. This ad is not in any way offensive to me. One, I'm in no need of being re-civilized, and two, I don't use this product and probably won't not because of the ad, but just because that's not a product I use, and three, there's no need to run screaming everytime a mainstream company attempts to appeal to me and miss the mark some how. I think as a people, we tend to go crying everytime someone tries to market something to us and doesn't get it right. This ad shouldn't be so outrageous to us if it isn't the case too.
