A Differnce A Year Makes

Its award season again and it looks like this year will lack diversity.

Last year, blacks and women were making headway with film making and cracking into this business, but guess again.

All the nominations are white.

I was shocked myself especially with the outstanding work of many black films that were displayed this year ie For Colored Girls and the dramatic and inspiring performance the cast and directors displayed.

Anyway, maybe next year. I just thought you should know.

Cover story: Where's the diversity at the Oscars? - http://bit.ly/gRtMDM #cnn

(here is the article, it was eye opening)

Oh by the way, Black Swan was good, it tricked me up there for a few minutes but it was good in a different type of way. Go check it out.

Just for a better Education...

I find this a catch 22...

An Ohio mother wanted a better education for her children so she used her fathers address who lives in a better distinct. Consequently she was caught and was told to serve 10 days in jail. What makes the story even worse is that she was going to school to become a teacher and now will never be able to with her background as a convicted felon.

Now... as an educator, I see the wrong side of this. Legally this women was wrong on all counts. If I were the superintendent or the judge I would just make her pay a fine and tell her children to please leave or pay tuition, simple as that.

As a parent, I see this as a terrible situation for the mother. Obviously, she knows the value of a good education as she herself is going to school for a degree in teaching, as well as trying to advance her children.

Although many people may not agree with me but I do believe that if you work with your child and your child's teacher closely even in a "bad" school you will get a good education. I'm not saying it will be easy, but parents need to advocate for their children. The problem here is most parents don't know what to do or say on behalf of their children for them to receive the proper education.

Anyway... What are your thoughts??!!!

*side note - I know this type of situation occurs often, I'm not saying do it, but I'm damn sure not saying don't. Do what you have to do folks, just be smart about it.

When will all schools be equal and this wont be an issue or a problem?!

Just in case...

Hey folks!!!

Just in case you were wondering what actually all the hype is about eating meat, check out this video and I hope you think about this the next time you pick up that KFC drumstick.

Id Rather Go Naked!!!

As some of you all know I am a Pescetarian meaning I eat only organic Fish, no other meats. I do hope one day to become a full vegan, eating no meat or dairy products (now that's dedication).

I think becoming a vegetarian is a great choice for people in several ways. The first being that I am not adding to the lives of animals being slaughtered for their meat and second I am not helping to produce senseless killings for clothes.

Peta (people for the ethical treatment of animals) has also been doing a campaign called, "Id rather Go Naked Then wear Fur". I believe that becoming aware of the actual process is part of the misconception a lot of Americans have.

Anyway, long story short, Taraji P. Henson (who I love) has decided to go without clothes in her new ad for Peta, and she looks great and its for a great cause.

I personally believe that more African Americans should start investigating what they wear and what they put into there mouths.

Becoming a vegetarian/vegan/ Pescetarian is hard.... the temptation is great, but you honestly feel better about your body and your health after making this commitment.

*and side note maybe this will cut down on the obese rate in America... I don't know just a thought, although Ive never heard of a fat person who just ate plants...

DIVERSITY in OHIO Goverment is Missing

So I just saw this article on a website and it intrigued me because I used to live in Ohio.

Pressure mounts on Ohio Governor Kasich to diversify cabinet

Apparently the new Governor has an ALL WHITE cabinet.

Now having lived in Ohio, and attending school in Ohio I know from personal experience there is plenty of diversity- Asians, Hispanics, Indians, Africans... everyone!

So I was shocked when I saw that he didn't have any on his staff, especially if it is supposed to represent the people of the state and their views.

In the article, it states that he wanted the best... Now I agree, that's what we (the people he is supposed to represent) want as well, but he seriously couldn't find anyone who is of a different race????... Nope not buying it!

So what do you think???

P.S. I believe that black government officials should also take a hint and Diversify there staff as well. It goes both ways folks, not just black and white views.

Ministers attack billboard depicting gay black men in church (ChicagoPride.com : Albany, N.Y. News)

(Click link to see poster)

A billboard accepting gays in the church!!!!

... Now I personally don't care what a person does in between the sheets, that's your own business...

But, wow on a billboard? really? and the church is okay with this?

I know a lot of people especially older people who would find this offensive, me not so much.

Hmmm times are changing... and everyone is tryna go to haven, even gays.

*side note... before you respond does the bible say being gay is wrong? if so tell me where...

Simple Meals: Meatless Tacos

So a few nights ago I was at a friends having dinner....

Now me being a vegetarian (two years strong!) I usually choose to eat at home where 1) wont be tempted with meat, 2) I can enjoy my meal without all the vegetarian jokes and, 3) so I wont be a burden to the cook.

But my friend who is a meat-lover made some FABULOUS meatless tacos that I thought Id share.

FYI they are also pretty healthy!

Preparation Time: 5 min
Cooking Time: 5 min

The mystery of why o.b. tampons went missing...

So... whether you call it "that time of the month", "Aunt Flow", or "the evil witch"...

Your period, is something most women (and men lol) look forward to each month (please insert sarcasm).

Everyone has there own specific brand of products they use, but apparently O.b. tampons have went missing... (Maybe you guys know someone that can pull some strings to bring them back LMAO... I had to say it)

My first instinct was good... thoes are the ones with no applicator... who uses them anyway, yuck lol.

Well unbeknown to me, people do use them and are REALLY faithful to them. (ha what a surprise!)

So I found this article about what happened. Take a peak if your interested.

Each one, Teach one

Hey guys and girls,

I came across this great inspiring video of Steve Harvey and his wife who mentor teens.

In this day in age when a lot of women are raising young men, it is sssoooo important for young men and women to have a guide and example in there life to show them the proper way to behave and act.

Mentoring is a reward for both the mentee and the mentor. Try it folks.
Give to other who are less fortunate. Amen.

IM BACK!!!!

After much anticipation.... I'M BACK!!!

I will be updating ASAP with new and exciting things that are.... on the mind of THIS black chick! lol

I look forward to hearing from all of you and thanks for your continued support.
